hello...I am looking for a way to keep long guns "safe" without purchasing a $1000.00 safe. I have seen cabinets but I also do not want to display them. What about a pelican case or some other type of lockable box. I will be purchasing a mid size safe for handguns. any ideas will help thanks.
I found one in lowes. a liberty safe centurian safe $297.00 but you have to call and search for which store has one . these sell for $700. on sale at liberty for $550. look it up on the net this is top of the line.
i got one of these from cabelas for christmas. fits two handguns just fine. creative storage may get more.

I bought a StackOn gun cabinet off Craigslist for $40. They usually are on sale by me for $150 or so. Its more sturdy than I thought it would be.
My primary concern was keeping little fingers off the guns, and it does that well. I'm not as much worried about theft or fire.
I bought this at a local gun shop but you can find them online. This can be bolted to the floor, has a quick release four button combination lock and a shelf inside to separate two guns or a gun and other valuables. It cost $69.

You can usually find Stack On and Sentry safes for under $500 at various sporting goods stores like Dick's, Sports Authority, Wal Mart, etc. I've even seen them at my local BJ's every now and then. So they're out there.
I bought this one at Academy and love it. It even comes with a small fireproof document safe to store in the big safe....and big enough to add a second shelf.

What do you think of pelican cases?
I am a huge fan of Pelican cases! I have a few and love them. That being said, you're comparing apples and oranges. A case is, well, just a case. It it not a safe. It locks, but it is portable. Now if your only objective is to keep little fingers out and you're not concerned with theft or fire, then a Pelican will do the job. But if you are concerned with theft, then a safe, bolted to the floor, is the way to go.Quote:

This may be the wrong place to ask this question, but...
If you are out and need to lock up your pistol while you eat or something, do you have a safe in the trunk of your car? Obviously it is never ideal to leave a firearm in a vehicle, but it seems that sometimes its a necessity as I am unable to carry my weapon into a restaraunt.
Best to have the safe as out of sight as possible. and bolted to the metal somehow. They sell little safes with a steel wire but I don't know if I could trust them.
For in car check out Center Of Mass safes. Wife and I both have 1 in our cars and they are keyed alike.

I'm having a wodden cabinet made for my home and will be screwed to the studs in a wall. Seeing how I'm having it made I choose to not have any glass because I'm not looking for a display case. I also bought the Stack-On lock so the door can be securly locked.
