Check with the local law enforcement agency and you'll know for sure.

My thoughts are you have to make the gun as inaccessible as possible; meaning the guns are unloaded and locked and the ammo is also locked in a separate container. Since you have no trunk, the back of the cab would be your next option IMO. But like tekhead said, check with the authorities. I suggest both MN and WI in case that they have different requirements.

Check with the local people; however, as a rule of thumb, as far from you as possible where you cannot readily reach the weapon.

I used to put the unloaded handgun as far away as possible(behind
passenger seat) and ammo in truck bed in water proof locked
tool box. If I need to stop somewhere before destination then I
just put the toolbox in floor of driver side. Then I bought a truck bed
permanent mounted toolbox and that fixed the prob.
Never was stopped but I figure I was OK if it did happen.

I can attest that WI sucks. Here, I'd suggest unloaded, in the box, with a lock, ammo elsewhere, maybe locked in the glovebox. If you get pulled over, God be with you...

A handgun on the seat of a car that was indiscernible from ordinary observation by a person outside, and within the immediate vicinity, of the vehicle was hidden from view for purposes of determining whether the gun was a concealed weapon under this section. State v. Walls, 190 Wis. 2d 65, 526 N.W.2d 765 (Ct. App. 1994).

This section is constitutional as applied in this case. The defendant's interest in exercising his right to keep and bear arms for purposes of security by carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle does not substantially outweigh the state's interest in prohibiting him from carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle. State v. Fisher, 2006 WI 44, 290 Wis. 2d 121, 714 N.W.2d 495, 04-2989.

A defendant was properly convicted under this section for driving a vehicle with a gun locked in a glove compartment. State v. Fry, 131 Wis. 2d 153, 388 N.W.2d 565 (1986).

I used to live there! Born and raised (Milwaukee), moved here in 2000 and am surprised with all the hunters in Wi that the laws are are like that. I had no idea and now the thought of taking the guns up to my parents land for some plinking is not so attractive.
