    Smile Woo hoo!!!

Well after almost 3 months, I got the notice today that my handgun permit was ok'd and ready.

I ran over and picked it up, then ran to the gun shop to pick up the pistol I had on hold. Its a Bernardelli Model 80 in .380.

Here in my county in NY, you have to buy a gun before they'll give you a permit and you're not allowed to hold a gun before you get a permit, so I bought the cheapest handgun I could find that didn't look like a piece of @*&%! Its got a little wear on the front of the slide, but looks like its in nice shape. And for $150, it seemed like a good deal. And now I have to wait untill Friday before I can get to the range to shoot it.

So you have to pay for a gun that you can't use until you the permit, but you can't get a permit until you pay for a gun you can't use? Talk about a clusterf#*k! So now that you have the permit, can you get more guns on the same permit, or do you have to repeat the process over again?

Sweet, it looks like the love child of a Walther and a Makarov.
Post a range report when you can.
FYI - They are one of the oldest gun manufaturers in the world. The first correspondence regarding a Bernadelli is dated 1631, which makes them 100 years older than even Springfield.

Todd, Welcome to the world of New York logic! Not only can't you use a gun that you've paid for, but you aren't even legally allowed to handle the gun that you've paid for until you get your permit (in my county, anyway). Now that I've jumped through the hoops, when I get the next one, I have to file an amendment to the permit before I could pick it up. They say it can take up to a week to get the amendment paperwork filed.

kenn, thanks for the info. I'll post some details Friday night after I shoot it. I feel like a kid on Christmas!!

If anyone has any info about these like guns, please share. Aside from a parts diagram, I haven't seen too much information about these out there.

What about a CCW permit? Here, that trumps the standard purchase permit (no possession permit) with no wait time to purchase. Just walk into a gun store, pick a gun, give them your CCW, leave with the gun. Are you in part of NY where you, in theory, could get one? Would that eliminate the amendment and wait time?

Sorry for the quasi-hijack. I always find it fascinating to find out other state's gun laws.

    Congrats on the purchase!

Like Todd, I too am sometimes amazed by other state laws. Here in KY, you don't need anything besides a clean record and a drivers license to walk away with a gun in less than 10 minutes. I have to say, that NY law is one of the most bass-ackwards things I've ever heard.

New York only issues concealed carry permits - and you need a permit to take possession of a handgun. In order to limit or keep people from carrying all the time, the judge who signs off on your permit will usually put some sort of restriction on it, like for hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. After a while when you've proved your not likely to be a danger to society, you can request to have the restrictions lifted, but it will only be done at the judge’s discretion. I think that might be called legislating from the bench.

Congrats. I finally got my CCW permit today after a 46 day wait. My dad actually has a Bernardelli that he carried while in the Air Force.
