Read "Guns & Ammo, HANDGUNS" June/July 2008, page 44-47.

Not on the website, you'll have to read it in the supermarket... or buy it!

Glock 21SF vs XD45 vs Taurus 24/7 Pro 45 vs M&P 45...

The article was written by a seemingly pro-1911 guy. Too bad they didn't throw in a 1911 for the testing... just for comparison.

Go XD!

I was genuinely suprised at the opinions of recoil control, and speed.

The trigger control score I think is a typo, with the XD at 7.5, not 8.5, based on the list. But I fixed that with my custom work. Now it's much shorter, crisper, and the reset is fantastic.

The sights??? I swapped them too for Trijicons.

Another small pick... I must have majic-mags... cuz all 3 of mine hold 13... in case I miss the first TWELVE times.

Close race, but the XD came out on top in 5 (6 with typo) of 9 catagories (Timed Fire, Pate rack speed drill, Ergonomics, Trigger Control, Recoil Control, Sights, Accuracy, Ease of Reloads, Ease of Disassembly), and first over-all. Four testers, ranging from pro to recreational shooter. All regular 1911 shooters.

M&P45 and Glock 21SF seemed an even split for 2nd, and the Taurus finished last in 6 of 9 tests.

Guns ranged from $467 (Taurus) to $695 (M&P), and all were brand new, shot for accuracy, cleaned then tested.

I notice they didn't include a Witness in the test. Witness makes a really good poly .45 in 3 sizes. I have a compact with 3.6" barrel. it's really a good shooting gun. Witness pistols are all the rage in the European ISPC circuit, putting down 1911's and Glocks. IMO Witness is the best .45 for the money on the market. They are also the most versatile, the same frame will accept slide and barrel combinations in all calibers, 9mm,.38 super, .40S&W, 10mm, .45. The Euro's did this because most countries will only allow ownership of 1 hand gun and since the ser.# is in the frame ... , get the picture? Slide and barrel combo's usually run around $220 + magazines. Just a thought.

guess i'll have to go read the article again because as I remember there were some categories I was not interested in and
the ones that I was interested in favored the glock

does anybody else have thoughts on the glock vs the XD?
I have narrowed my 45acp semiauto choice down to these two companies

Brand new XD (M) on the way... of course the 45 will be six months behind...
