I was looking at a Kimber 1911 compact today. The gun shop I went to today has it priced at 1050.00!

I shot one yesterday at the range and liked it. I was thinking of possibly picking one up...until I saw the price! Wow!

I guess my question is...Do they hold their value?

Somewhat. NO current production gun really holds their value - not if you shoot it. The HK P7 might, and maybe the Beretta Billenium, if unfired, but that's about it.

U shouldn't looks more than a couple hundred dollars if you keep it in good shape. But, be aware that there are many different Kimber models. They have some w/ black sights in the mid to upper $600's, and some with nightsights in the 700 range. I like their black model with the front grip checkering and night sights - I think it's the TLE model. Now, of course, the more ya spend, the more features the gun has.

If ya buy a KImber, though, make sure it has an internal extractor. For 2006, Kimber finally quit making the guns w/ the external extractor - itw as causing them a bunch of problems. There is a lot of old stock still out there that stores are having problems selling because everyone wants the internal extractors

I may be mr negative - and, I will admit, I prefer to not buy used gun. But, a 1911 is the last gun I would ever buy used - unless I could fire it first. If you buy from someone locally online, and they are willing to meet you at the range and fire 30-50 rounds, then maybe I would be tempted. Otherwise, no way I would do that.

I was kinda leary buying the Cougar used, but I lucked out I think. It would be nice if Gun Shops had a built in range to try out firearms. Kind of like "test driving" before you buy, new or used.
