    9MM amunition

    Howdy,

I had a question, often I see 9MM handguns listed as Ruger or Other.
I know Ruger is a manufactuer but is Ruger a style of 9MM ammo and other a different style? Thanks

    Joe

If you mean 9mm Luger, that is a standard 9mm round. If you do actually mean 9mm Ruger, then that's new to me I'm not sure what you mean by other.

You're thinking of Luger and Markarov. 9mm Makarov is 9x18 and 9mm Luger is 9x19 which are different sized obviously.

    Any help there?

Sorry I meant Luger. Will both of these 9X18 & 9X19 fit a standard 9MM handgun or does the Luger fit certain brands of guns and the Markarov fit other brands of 9MM guns? Thanks

The Luger is 9x19 parabellum which fits the standard 9mm handguns (probably most of what you are looking at). 9x18 Makarov (or 9mm short) fits different handguns and will not work in a handgun designed for 9mm Luger. What exactly are you looking at/for? Anything in particular?

They have different sized cartridges. need specific weapons, you'll probably never see a gun that fires markarov. I've never seen one, just seen ammo.

9mm short is 9x17mm a.k.a. the 9mm kurz, or .380acp, depending on what part of the world you are from.

If you will check a website like www.Ammoguide.com, you will find that thee are many "9mm" pistol cartridges ranging from 9x17 or .380acp to the 9mm Win Mag for the Automag pistols. Such rounds include the .380, 9mm Mak or 9x18mm, 9x18 ultra, 9x19mm Luger, 9x21mm, and the 9x25 Dillon. There may be more, but I don't have my guide in front of me.
