They are so nearly the same gun that it really boils down to how they feel to you and how you shoot them. Rent both, ideally on the same day and give them a go. Take your time and don't rush it. Really get the feel of each gun.
What would you consider as the top 3 pros and top 3 cons of the XD Service Model 4" in 9mm vs. the G19 (I prefer the smaller G19 vs G17)?
I think I am narrowed down to these two. I also rented an MP in 9mm and liked it but not as much as these two. I am hoping to rent both of these soon.
Thanks!

To each his own. Personally, I don't see a need comparing a 'wannabee' next to a tried and true. Go with yor instincts, and definitley shoot them both. The answer imminently awiats you.
XD top three con's:
1. They're ugly.
2. They look funny.
3. They aren't pretty.
At least they work fairly well.....
PhilR.
Here we go again - in one corner, we have Mike Barham and PhilR., and in the other PanaDP and JeffWard! Let's get ready to rummmmmmmblllllleeeee!!!!
Seriously, the top three pros as I see them:
Glock
Lower bore axis
Shorter trigger reset
Longer track record of reliability
XD
More comfortable grip for many (maybe most) people
Shorter trigger reach
Grip angle is the same as 1911 (a pro if you shoot other guns besides the XD)
Top three cons:
Glock
Some people abhor the trigger and just can't adapt
Some people hate the grip angle and just can't adapt
Possibly the ugliest gun ever designed
XD
High bore axis
Long trigger reset
Lesser availability of magazines, holsters, parts, accessories and armorers
Some people think the extra safety devices on the XD are a plus, but I think they are mainly useless to a competent shooter.
The M&P has a lower bore axis than the XD, and a shorter trigger reset. I am not fully convinced it is as reliable as the other two, since it is considerably newer, but it certainly has potential.
The Glock and the XD are both good pistols. Either will serve you well. As you progress as a shooter, you may come to value the lower bore axis and shorter trigger reset on the Glock more. These are subtleties that elude most inexperienced shooters.

For XDs, I just don't like how the recoil rod sticks out on the front of the slide. It could snag on something when drawing/holstering.

Mike thanks for some objective information there. Good points to think about!
