Most CCW permits are recognized by more than just the issuing state. My NC permit allows me to carry in all the states that border mine and a number of others. Maybe a Florida permit is widely accepted. Baldy will know.
I was in my NJ dealer recently and I overheard one of the salespeople bragging about having a Florida CCW permit. And, I thought "big deal" and wondered why he would be so happy when all he can do with it is carry in FL.
It was extremely busy so I didn't get a chance to question him about it. But, when I got home I wondered if having a CCW permit in another state makes it easier to obtain one in your home state. Otherwise, what's the big deal. Unless he visits FL on a regular basis, I don't see the purpose of going through the paperwork.
Any thoughts on that?

I can't say about other states but, Alabama premits are recognized by 13 of the southeastern states. I can't remember exactly all of the states, but the ones I remember are , AL, MS, GA, FL, TN, KY, OK, LA, TX, MO, I'm not sure about the others and I can't find my pamphlet right now. I will update you later.
Just found this through Google, but it doesn't explain any benefits for an NJ resident to have FL, because there's no reciprocity between the two.
Maybe, he just likes having FL CCW and there is no other benefit in NJ.

The FL CCW is, I believe, recognized in more states than any other. Thus, a non-resident holding a FL CCW can carry in a whole bunch of states. Of course, if you are in a non-carry state, it helps you not a whit at home, though you can obviously carry on your FL CCW if you go to a free state.
What I really want is a non-resident CA CCW. Most other states I visit are already covered by my AZ and CT permits, but not CA.

Down here in the swamp the whole deal is real relaxed about guns. LEO's don't get all hyped up about them unless you step over the line with one. There are many states that you can travel through without worry. I can go from Florida to Northern Indiana and never have to take my gun off. I like that.
God that's just awesome! I like having firearms. It feels more American for some reason. Most of my friends and family say my new obsession is a bit "scary," but that's because they didn't grow up around guns.
On a side note, I talked to my dealer about doing qualifying for an NJ CCW. I figured I might have a shot given that I'm a business owner, but he just laughed and said that any municipality will just say "hire a bodyguard for the hour that you go to the bank if you feel unsafe."
Ain't that a bitch????![]()
Mike is right. The FL CCW is the most recognized permit in the nation. It is valid in almost 30 states I think. There's a reason Florida is the "Gunshine State," as it is colloquially referred to.
NC CC is recognized 30 states/

A big advantage to having a FL CCW is that you do not have to wait the 3 day wait period for puchasing a handgun in FL. Doesnt seem that big of a deal unless you visit and find a good deal on a gun.

Should be easy. Lots and lots of folks have them.

Just got all of my Florida CCW paperwork. I'm a NJ resident and I sent out for a packet last week it just came in the mail the other day. I should have it within 60 days![]()
