The PM40 & the CW40 are the exact same thickness. The PM40 is about an inch shorter in OAL, and about 1/2" less in height. It holds 1 less round of ammo. The PM comes with 2 mags, while the CW comes with one.

Can't address reliability specifically for those 2 models, but I suspect it's good. My P40 has been 100% reliable.

The PM40 is the smallest .40 I've ever seen.

I does come with 2 magazines. One is a flush-fit 5 round mag. The other is an extended 6-round mag.

It's a very reliable, accurate gun. And mine will be for sale soon... only because I'm thinking hard about the new PM45, and I know I can get more in a private sale than I can in trade for mine.

The fact that the CW comes with only one magazine compared to two on the PM40 is not really an issue. When you figure how much more the PM cost than the CW, if all other things were equal, you could certainly afford to buy a second magazine a la carte and still be way ahead of the game.

If the CW is indeed a full inch longer overall than the PM, I will either step up to the PM or just hold off until I can afford what I want.

A co-worker just showed me the new Springfield XD sub-compact he bought for concealed carry. He has had it only a few days and already has buyer's remorse. He said it's too thick to carry comfortably.

I would hate to make the same mistake and that is why I'm looking just at the Kahr. I think the thinner the better. It's amazing that 1/4" can make such a difference

I just traded an XD 9 SC for a Kahr CW9. The XD is like a boat anchor. Great gun, but way too big for me to carry. The CW is a dream, shoots great and conceals very easily, either in big pocket or IWB. It is so light that you can hardly tell it's there. Wish I would have done this a long time ago. Along with my trusty P3AT my concealed needs have been met very successfully. Thin is in.

I don't think that the length of the gun is hard to conceal when using an IWB, and comfort is the same with a 3" barrel and a 4" barrel for me. The hard thing I have to conceal is the grip. My PPK/S carried well, but the extended mag and even the flat mag prints more than my PM9 with flat mag.

I think I have made up my mind to go with the PM 40, whether I get it as soon as I would like or not.

What do you guys suggest for the best self defense ammunition for this gun as well as the best IWB holster?
