I was at a shop the other night comparing the XD & M+P, & discussing the Stoeger Cougar with one of the guys at the shop. He told me that the Cougars are impossible to get, not to even bother, he hasn't seen them in months.
He also told me that if I wanted an XD that I was pretty much stuck with what they had in the shop (couldn't get black/choose barrel size, etc) for the same reason. I am new to this game, & I always am a little leary of salesmen. He was very helpful & patient with me, and he wasn't pushy, but I couldn't help but think that he might have been trying to steer me toward the purchase.
Does anyone know if these things are true - are these guns so popular that you can't get your hands on them?

Never argue with drunks or crazy people.
This link will give you a general picture of XD availability. Use the "Gun locater" about center of page near top. http://www.galleryofguns.com/#
I don't have a link for Stoeger product but perhaps someone else does.
The Xd's are excelent pistols.
Good luck

I'm guessing his highest commission was on the M&P... hahaha
Sounds like what he was really saying was that he wants you to settle for something he has so he can get a sale today instead of working with you to get what you want.
Don't compromise-get what you want- not what he wants to sell you.
Stoeger Cougar are impossible to get these days. I looked everywhere and three different guns shows they all said the same thing, good luck. On the XD the gun shps here say they can get them the next day. Be careful of the gallery of guns. If you find one there make sure you know what the going price is. They can be very high most of the time.
I get the best prices in Arizona through an FFL that obtains his guns via Gallery of Guns. The Gallery does not set profit level the FFL does. When I had a problem with an XD9 (consistent FTE's) The Davidson guarantee which states they will replace with NEW any gun that fails allowed me to obtain a switch to M&P9 because XD's were not readily available at that time. I reccomend you use the Gallery of Guns (Davidson) online vendor search, zip code based, to find an FFL who will sell at a reasonable price. Dividsons is an upstanding company that I will continue to use and reccomend.

I too have used Davidsons; worked fine both times. As mentioned, the price shown by Davidson's is not what the local dealer charges - Davidson's shows list price. When you get a quote from your local dealer (via the zip code finder deal) you get the realistic price.
