I was, and am, a little confused about this article. It talks about a firearms permit and as I understand it that is a permit to purchase a firearm. Then it talks about her being able to carry her firearm. That is generally referred to as a concealed carry permit. So I'm not sure which one it is. And I say this because I believe in New Jersey, you must first obtain a permit to purchase before you can take possession of a firearm from an FFL. I had thought it was next to impossible to obtain a concealed carry permit in New Jersey.

Regardless, this is a very sad state of affairs and reminds me of a case that occurred here in my state some years back. At one time, we had a three day waiting period before we could take possession. A woman in my county who was in the military had a restraining order on her estranged husband (or was it a boyfriend?). She bought a handgun because she feared for her life and one day before she would have been free to pick it up, he killed her. I think that crime was the incentive to rescind the waiting period law.

These cases are sad and should not have happened. No one who has a legal right to own and bear arms should be denied that right.

NJ don't care about the everyday people that need a gun for defense they think the criminal has more of a right to hurt you than you to own a gun. I was told by Jersey City PD that the criminal's life was more important than my personal belongings and that strong arm robbery is not that serious of a crime. Nothing will change in that blue state and the people there are happy with what they got for the most part. If you love high taxes and being a victim then NJ is the place for you. I won't ever spend tourist dollars in that state. SC has been added to my list to because they don't trust GA people with guns and that goes for every other state that denies me the right to protect myself.

Well you're welcome to come to Virginia and spend you money here. Even though we don't share reciprocity with GA, you can still go armed. Just carry openly.

It's a pisser that I have to go into New Jersey in August and spend a night there in a motel. Don't relish that.

I know the feeling. Usually had to fly to the job, so my best solution was a 5-cell flashlight in my luggage. Driving, a machete. Hey, better than nothing.

I don't understand that.
If I feel threatened and ask therefore for a gun permit in a communist state?
In Europe the Government with tat kind of people would not give you a permit even when you could photograph the threat.
But anyhow... I carried all the time in Europe a weapon concealed (Mostly a PPK 380). 58% of the Europeans have to be armed and they are. The possession of a firearm in Europe is about 68% of the people that have a gun in the home and that even the government is a serious threat to gun posession with pserious prison time. Better on a court of law than in the waiting room of a crematorium that is.

So why on earth did she even wait for a permit that she new she will never obtain from that kind of people ion that government. Did she not know in what state she lived? And why did she live there, the US is large.

Evidently, it was just a permit submitted by her to her local sheriff's office to legally "purchase" a firearm, not a CCW permit.

Monday morning quarterback on duty. Echoing what PT 111 said on the subject, If I have to break a stupid law in order to continue breathing, I break the damned law! If I was certain that someone was going to kill me, I wouldn't wait for him to keep his promise.
