U've never heard of this? People have been doing this for years. I am 34 now. When I was about 10 - there was a guy who did this in my home town and died. He climbed up onto the roof of a 2nd story building. Huffed the freon, and then fell off the roof. Broke his neck. I can't remember if he died or was paralyzed, though.

A few years ago, I once had a guy on my probation caseload who was into huffing gold spray paint. Apparently, the gold color makes for a better high. When U catch these guys, you can see little gold flakes around their facial area.

Anyway - this guy had fried his brain so bad - he pretty much couldn't understand anything anymore....

Yes, it is ridiculous. Many drugs will mess U up - but huffing is probably one of THE worst things U can do - U REALLY get brain damage - and it doesn't have to take long before it happens. U literally become a walking vegetable and can barely form a sentence or speak.

Guy I had with the paint - he fried his brain so much that he could barely understand what I was saying - And, he went right back to it - What little was left of his brain kept pushing him to continue it. And, there are no drug tests for huffing. Theoritically, a blood test at a hospital could maybe tell - oxygen levels in the blood or something. But I looked into a way to detect it - and came up empty. Guy was so broke he couldn't afford anything hi tech, and most prob departments won't pay for that kinda med test.

I've dealt w/ people frying their brain on meth - lowering their IQ over time. It really is sad. So much of that stuff causes brain damage.

I used to do paint and drywall work. One day I was lacquering some kitchen cabinets and the filters on my respirator were worn out and I did not realize it until I got lacquer sick. One of the worst feelings I ever had. I don't understand what make these guys go back to this stuff time and time again.

I understand that. As a plumber I have to deal with the PVC glue smell. I couldn't imagine smelling it on purpose.

Freon (as I understand from a med. student friend)wont get you high,what it does is (being heavier than air) when inhaled it settles in your lungs and takes up space they need for air, depriving your body(brain) of oxygen and THAT makes you feel high. A couple of 13 y.o. boys bodies were found in a field a couple years ago up here in Id. with freon cans all around them,coroner said "cause of death",they suffocated
