    Double Shooting at Church

This occurred about 2 blocks from my son's school! I got to drive by and through a huge crowd of people all pointing and crying, what appeared to be the entire police force of the town, and about 4 news trucks.

    Double-shooting reported near Fuquay-Varina church

Fuquay-Varina, N.C. Police are investigating a double-shooting that killed a woman and injured a man near St. Augusta Missionary Baptist Church, 605 Bridge St., Wednesday morning.

Police have not released the victims' names or any information about possible shooter(s).

Family members said the woman, who was in her mid to late 20s, was dropping off her two children at a before-school program at the church, which she had done for the past several years.

The man who was shot was her boyfriend, according to family members.

The children were not harmed, according to the church's pastor, Rev. Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr., who said the two victims were not members of the church.

A woman standing near the scene crying said the shooting victim is her daughter. She declined to comment further. A WRAL reporter at the scene said onlookers were crowding around the area and were very emotional.

Police taped off the church parking lot, including a blue mini-van with the driver's side door open.

That's sad. If ever there was a place to feel safe, I thought it would be a church, that just changed.

Where have you been hiding? Under a rock? Google "Church shooting" and you could make a day of reading case after case after case of church shootings. A church is often times just another "gun free zone" for bad people to attack with little to no repercussions. It definately is sad though.

I agree. In fact, I think a church is actually more of a target because of its symbolism. If a person or group hates what that particular religion represents, then the church, and the people in it, are natural targets.

    Update:

Looks like a DV case. Murder/attempted suicide.

    Woman killed outside Fuquay-Varina church

Fuquay-Varina, N.C. — Police were investigating a double-shooting outside a Fuquay-Varina church early Wednesday that left a woman dead and a man wounded.

Jammie Shatel Street, 30, was shot at least once and died at the scene, police said. Daniel Jerome Montgomery, 31, was shot once in the chest and was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh for treatment. His condition was unknown Wednesday afternoon.

Street was a mother of three and drove a school bus for Fuquay-Varina High School, said her aunt, Doris Burton.

"She was just so good-hearted," Burton said. "I can't see why any harm would have been brought to her, why her life was cut down at such an early age."

Family members said Street was dropping off two of her children at St. Augusta Missionary Baptist Church, 605 Bridge St., shortly after 6 a.m. for a before-school program, which she had done for the past several years.

Montgomery was Street's boyfriend and the father of her youngest child. Relatives said they weren't aware of any difficulties between the couple, but police said Montgomery had been charged at least twice with domestic assault and domestic trespass in incidents involving Street.

"We just don't know ... why it happened, what took place, what was going on, if they had an argument, fussed or anything. We don't know," Burton said. "It's so sad. It's just a heartbreak. It's such a terrible tragedy, and we are trying to make sense of it to see what took place for him to have did what he did."

The children witnessed the shooting but weren't harmed, according to the church's pastor, Rev. Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr., who said Street and Montgomery weren't members of the church.

"It’s an unfortunate circumstance. It was a domestic dispute between a mother and her children’s father, her boyfriend," Connelly said. "Our hearts go out to the families. We’ll certainly be praying for the families and provide whatever support the church can provide to this family."

Police taped off the church parking lot, including a blue minivan with the driver's side door open.
