    LIFE photo archive

    Search millions of historic photos

Search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750s to today. Most were never published and are now available for the first time through the joint work of LIFE and Google.

I didn't know that anybody was taking photos in the 1750s.
(Maybe the "camera" was a big box, with an oil-painting midget in it?)

Well, it may not have been exactly "photography," but Hogarth was always accurate in depicting his observations.
    Good choice!
