Who is the African-American Running for President?

Does anyone know who the African-American presidential candidate is that I keep hearing so much about? I can't seem to identify him.

I checked out John McCain, but there's just no way! He's way to white & pasty. Looks more like a fat Casper than an African-American.

Maybe a minority, unannounced, or third party candidate? Maybe Ross Perot, Bob Barr, Ralph Nader, T. Boone Pickens?? No, I don't think so. Some other obscure party? No, he's getting way too much attention for that.

And then it comes to me. Surely they're not talking about Barrack Husein Obama. He's not African-American. His mother was white, though she was from America. His father was an Arab. So if his mother was white, and his father was Arabic, why do people call him African-American? Even his complete name, Barrack Husein Obama is Arabic. If he's half white and half Arab, how can he be an African-American?

Another interesting observation is the Arab's historical ties to the slavery of the African people. Obama's Arab ancestors were slave owners and traders. So while most African-Americans are the descendent's of slaves, Obama is the descendant of slave owners.

So where and who is this "African-American" candidate I keep hearing about?

Obama's father was Kenyan, but of largely Arabic descent.

Not sure why that matters. It's not like we can choose our parents.

I think the OP is referring to the way tha BHO is pandering to african americans, instead of honoring his true heritage. (op's opinion I think)

I haven't followed Obama's campaign all that closely, but I don't recall seeing much (if any) "pandering" to blacks. He'll get 80-90% of the black vote pretty much regardless of what he does or says, without really working for it.

If he indeed is not African American then he is indeed "pandering" if he is African American then this is not the case, I think I see the OP's predicament

Obama "is" whoever's vote he's trying to get next...

Rich democrat, working class, black, white, independent, radical, reformer... Depends on the day... Whoever is listening at the time... If you're unhappy with Bush, he's all about change. If you're happy about Socialism, he's all about status quo... If you're old, he's all about social security... If you're young, he's running against Pres Bush... but like McCain said, if you want to run against Bush, you're 4 years too late... But then, 4 years ago, he was a professional "Community Organizer"...

      He's the ultimate Politician...

This is our political system 101........ Obama is not alone in this, McCain is just as culpable if not more.....

McCain was against guns in 2000 and 2004, but now in 2008 to get the GOP nod he's all about being pro gun while he's talking to gun owners and decidedly liberal when he's talking to people who want to hear something else.

This is the problem here..... one side keeps saying their side is OK for doing the SAME THING as the other.....

How is it even slightly logical to say Obama is wrong for doing the same things McCain is doing... but McCain is right?

Oh I know..... people will just twist the reality to fit their argument like....

      "Well Obama does it more..."

OK yeah he did it 9 times plus 1 while McCain did it 8 times plus 2......

McCain has a blue car, which is better than Obama's blue car because Obama's car as 4 wheels and McCains car as 3 wheels plus one wheel.... OH yea that makes sense.....

Well if Obama is pandering to blacks...Is McCain pandering to gun owners?

Lack of critical thinking, this is why our country is in trouble. You cannot be against one side or the other until you full understand both views. And once you understand both views you cannot be totally against either side.

We choose sides, but we never really explore the other. We just take the media spin for face value and that plays right into their hands. We are all suckers, sheep...blindly following along party lines because we are too stubborn or unwilling to examine anything....

Probably... here is the thing, politicians for the most part are going to follow their party platforms that is why in the absence of strong evidence against someones character I vote republican. And I dont fault Dom's for doing the same but I think BHO is to extreme left and has some character issues as well as some PATRIOTISM issues

Bing! Bing! Bing! We have a winner.

Between the two choices Obama is getting my vote.

      Inexperienced......Agreed
      Liberal.......Agreed
      Anti Assault Weapon.....Agreed

      But also (and more importantly)......IMHO.

      Highly Intelligent
      Better Temperament
Better choice on the advancement of scientific research
Smarter approach on future energy needs
Better choice to raise America's political/social standing in the world.
WAY more qualified and competent Vice Presidential pic.
Better choice to make a positive change in our economics

And while I'm no fan of socialism I do believe we have reached a point in this country where one thing in particular NEEDS to be socialized......HEALTHCARE.

Barack just might be a roller coaster ride.....but I'm willing to roll the dice vs. the option.

Well I cannot deny some of that.....

I think Obama falls short on the Republican definition of patriotism compared to McCain especially. I'm not sure I've seen blatant evidence that he is unpatriotic either.

But I'm not sold that Obama has a character issue, I think that is a matter of personal perception. I would say the fact that McCain has changed his entire platform to fit a more right-wing ideal makes me question his character more than Obama's.

It shows a lack of character by McCain IMO that he did not stand up to Rove and his cronies and say "too bad, I'm running my campaign my way" and why did he not stand up to the extreme right and appoint the VP he wanted?

McCain caved in and that shows a serious character flaw that I cannot ignore. It is the main reason I jumped ship on him. If he was such a maverick he would have said "here I am, this is what I want for America and I don't care that it does not please some Republicans, and some Democrats."

McCain constantly talks about how he bucked his own party, and how he will do it again.... yet he refused to buck the dirty campaign and shoddy policy that the Rovers demanded. He tried so hard to keep that extreme right wing, that he lost all his supporters who were in the middle, and the middle third is about 50% of the country.

Then he injects some socialist ideas into the fold and confuses things even her. I think they have to keep asking "Who is Obama?" because they don't want anyone asking "Who is McCain?" .... I feel like asking for the real Slim Shady to please stand up!

He didn't have a choice. He needed someone to walk the precincts, make the phone calls, and "get out the vote." People in the middle don't do that. Volunteers from the party's base do it. If the base isn't supporting a candidate enough to do the necessary volunteer work, he's pretty well sunk.

The base responded well to Sarah Palin, even if few other people did. In that sense, I suppose she's served her purpose. She obviously become something of a polarizing/divisive figure at this point, however, which doesn't help McCain.

Obama is against a lot more than just "assault weapons".
