How the media gets it wrong

Just watched a report on TV about the factory I work at. Said due to the slow down in house building, we would be shutting down for 2 weeks without pay.

      ah...not exactly...

It's 10 days spread out over the next 6-8 months. Those days are only unpaid if you don't use vacation days (employees choice). The first 5 days have already been scheduled, 1 day each before Thanksgiving and Christmas, 2 days in Jan, and 1 day in Feb. The other 5 days will be announced in Jan.

They also said they spoke to some employees that didn't know anything about it. Well...yeah...if they asked about a 2 week shutdown without pay, since that isn't what is scheduled, I'm sure they didn't know anything about it. Of course it could be they spoke to someone that doesn't work in the area affected by this. We have 2 product lines, only 1 line is affected, and the folks in the office areas aren't either.

So...they got the basic facts right, but the details are lacking.

It always looks better in print to say..."The dam broke "..instead of "The faucet is leaking"...That's how things get reported...Sells more papers...

Well, the tv station has succeeded in pissing someone off here at work.

That stations web site is now blocked by our firewall filter...
