Armed 85-year-old woman makes intruder call cops

In my world, all home intruder stories wolud have a similar headline.

POINT MARION, Pa. — An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said. "I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun," Leda Smith said.

Smith heard someone break into her home Sunday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor's home was burglarized a few weeks ago.

"I said 'What are you doing in my house?' He just kept saying he didn't do it," Smith said.

After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

The boy will be charged with attempted burglary and related offenses in juvenile court, Trooper Christian Lieberum said. He was not identified because of his age.

"It was exciting," Smith said. "I just hope I broke up the (burglary) ring because they have been hitting a lot of places around here."

The lady in the above picture is not Leda Smith but she does look familiar. It's imagery of what comes to my mind when I think of the scenario and the statement she made... "It was exciting".

In all seriousness, I commend her for her bravery and decisiveness. The link below is for a similar story regarding this ordeal and shows a picture of the real Leda Smith.

Thanks for the link to the other story.

Then the woman told the boy to turn around, pick up the telephone receiver and dial 9-1-1.
Good tactical decision to make him dial the phone for her. Otherwise, she would have had to take her eyes off of him so she could dial.

      I can see it now...

      * Tactical Walker with double mag pouch
      * T-shirts that say "Medi-Alert my a$$, say hello to my 9mm sucka!"
      * Oxygen hose that doubles as zip tie handcuffs
      * Bullet proof wheelchair backing with flip up chest plate
      * "The neutralizer- It looks like a nebulizer, but when you blow in it, it deploys pepper spray"
      * Lazy-boy tactical ejection rocker, so you can get to your walker faster
      * Tactical absorbant Depends, for when the SHTD
      * Dr Sholl's ninja bootie inserts for slippers
      * Universal remote control/tactical gramma taser

      One cool-headed granny...
      I like this tactic...

Freeze! Pick up the phone. Dial 9-1-1. Wait for your ride...

      LOL
