    Calling shotgun

Calling shotgun in the car means you sit up front. Anyone know where this reference came from? The only thing I can think of is a shotgunner takes point and leads (stays up front).

It comes from "riding shotgun" on a stagecoach in the old west.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!! Just wait 'til you get pulled over and the cop says, "Ma'am, what're you holding that shotgun for?" She replies, "Zombies. You never can be too careful these days."

True, but if the cop is a handgun fan, and most cops are, he's been to this forum and he'll probably go - "Hey! aren't you Carla!"

Yea, they used to get robbed a lot by thieves, so typically someone with a shotgun would sit up front next to the driver/ horse controller.
