    Calling shotgun

    Calling shotgun in the car means you sit up front. Anyone know where this reference came from? The only thing I can think of is a shotgunner takes point and leads (stays up front).

    True, but if the cop is a handgun fan, and most cops are, he's been to this forum and he'll probably go - "Hey! aren't you Carla!"

    Yea, they used to get robbed a lot by thieves, so typically someone with a shotgun would sit up front next to the driver/ horse controller.
