    50yds from a "Shootout" Yesterday!!!

I was playing golf yesterday afternoon, and we were all standing aroud on the tee box waiting for the green to clear below us (par 3). There was a building just off the course under construction and we were watching the guys lug cement. (Happy to be golfing instead)

Suddenly, there was a rapid volly of 4-5 shots, a pause, 2 more, pause 2 more. LOUD! I knew they sounded like gunshots, but we were tornetween gunshots, and a nail gun, since the construction was right there. It was over in maybe 5 seconds, as many as 9 shots.

15 minutes later, there are a swarm of police and news choppers right over the golf course...

Well, I got the news this morning... Double-Homicide, drug-related, in the front lawn, of a nicer subdivision (night-time-gated), in CLERMONT, FL. This is a nice middle-class/upper-mddle-class neighborhood in a very quiet, very safe area half an hour outside Orlando. I looked the address up on mapquest, and it happened witin 50-100yds of the tee box we were standing on. It was the far side of the house from where we were, so no stray bullets came our way, but it was pretty wild.

I was thinking about it... there was a pretty good chance that the guy who did the shooting could have decided to hop the fence in the back and cross the golf course. He would have been right on top of us.

I normally stash my pistol in the car when I play golf (hell, where is safer than a golf course????), but yesterday, I was carrying my KelTec, in my thigh pocket. I tossed it in the side pocket of my golf bag with my wallet on the first tee...

I guess you'll never know where you may need it.

HOW CLOSE HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO GUNFIRE (ASIDE FROM A CONTROLED RANGE)?
    AND WHEN?
    WHERE YOU ARMED?
    WHAT DID YOU DO?

I assumed it was a gun, then shrugged it off. We made jokes about some guy shooting his wife for changing the channel while he was watching the Masters.... WHAT IF THE GUY CAME ONTO THE COURSE? What would you have done?

I was playing golf last year in a scramble outing. We heard multiple gunshots close by. The hole we were playing was on a property line and bordered a wooded area divided by a stream. All of a sudden, the next volley of shots sounded closer, a lot closer. A second thought in my head told me that the shooters seemed to switch from 38 to 357 rounds and the frequency, 6 shots, pause, 6 shots...made it seem like target practice. I had a Bersa 380 in my bag at the time and I got it out and put it in my belt. We never did see anyone shooting but we played that hole in record time and moved on.

As an aside, I rented a 4 bdrm. 3 bath house in outside of Orlando in February, in a gated community, I think in Clermont. I often do this with my family of 5 because it's actually less expensive than Disney Hotels and we have a heated pool and hot tub all our own. It's hard to imagine a drug related killing there but in this day and age, anything can happen. Guess I'll pack a weapon for my next trip and stay there.

I almost got shot hunting once. We were walking a ridge line and some idiots down a hill decided it was fun to toss a bottle in the air and try to shoot it .... with rifles! When the bullet whizzed by, we hit the dirt and crawled out of there. I was technically armed, but never thought of returning fire.

Yet another reason why I don't hunt any more.

    Similar to Todd here.
I was still hunting up behind the house. Saw movemnt and looked up to see a buck just over the rise. Then the shot (not mine). I dropped. Took a few seconds and got up. walked toward the spot........and found my brother (didn't know he was hunting there) searching for blood sign.
    i still hunt though.

What I want to know is if you slice your tee shot because this guy startles you mid swing, Do you take a mulligan, or are you forced to play where it lies?

As for what I would do if he ran out onto the fairway shooting, I'd yell "FORE" and blast him.

Ok, I'm kidding, I wouldn't just start throwing lead. He didn't attack me, and the cops were already there. Let them handle it. I will admit however, that I would not be able to resist the urge to drive every golf ball I could find at him. Speaking of which, if I did manage to bean him with a golf ball, can I take a few strokes off my score? Or better yet, a free round of golf, like when you hit the clown in the mouth at the mini golf place.

That is really intense! Ya just never know what in the hell is gonna happen next. Another reason to carry just in case you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. Did they nab the shooter yet?

I was duck hunting in Alaska once with two friends. Two of us were dropped on a little island and the other was out in a boat. Evidently our boat friend lost track of us because everytime he shot we had to duck (No pun intended) becuase we had incoming lead shot raining on us.

Right now their trying to determine if the "shooter" also ended up the "shootee", and was found on the lawn... The guy he shot shot back... You know the police and the media...

The police is saying nothing, and the media is speculating everything... and putting it on the air with "credible sources"...

    Looking for an update now...

They are seeking a "person of interest" who drives an Impala with 20" rims... Eugenio Spitalieri, 21... and the article contained a January 2008 Mugshot... Go figure.

Two dead, 17, and 24... what a shame.

The closest I have been was sitting in my dorm room one night, and less than a block away a "gentleman" who had just gotten out of jail went to his ex-girlfriends place and held a gun to her head. Then he ran outside and fired a few random shots at the house. We were able to hear the shots loud and clear.

The guy then disappeared until he was found in North Carolina. The shooting happened in northwest Iowa.

From your original discription it sounds like who ever the shooter was made sure they were dead. Flurry of shots followed by two sets of double taps.....most likely to the head of each victum. My guess would be he set up a fake sale and then took the money and made damn sure they weren't gonna come looking for it back! A good illustration as to why selling drugs is a bad way to make a living even if you think you can out smart the LEO's

Good analysis... From the shots, I'd guess more likely: 4 in the first guy, 2 in the next guy, then two more to the second guy. Grab the cash, the drugs, and bail...

7 in the mag, one in the pipe.

No more bullets... time to fly...

But that would be putting a 1911 in the hands of a 21 year old thug?

If it were 5+2+2 then it could be a Ruger .45 ACP or a few others???? All conjecture! It could just as easily have been a high cap 9. He finished what he set out to do and left.......

Cold as HELL anyway you look at it!

I would give you a few strokes off your score if I were playing with you, but the only problem is that if you hit him with a golf ball, then you would probably be sued or charged with some crime almost as if you had shot him in the back while he was running from the scene. Crazy world we live in!!
