I see this sort of thing happen a lot. There's nothing wrong with checking someone out, but some people see it as an invitation to do something most would consider morally wrong. I've always wondered what I would do in the event I came across someone (usually a female) who was in imminent danger. Again, like you said, that's not being a hero, but an upstanding citizen who looks out for others. But if you did "rescue" someone from a hairy situation, they may look at you as a hero, even though it's just simply looking out. I try to not to meddle in others' business, but it's something to think about if someone really does need help. I'm interested to see what others' opinions are on what the presidential candidates are.
