Thread: How would they react?

I see this sort of thing happen a lot. There's nothing wrong with checking someone out, but some people see it as an invitation to do something most would consider morally wrong. I've always wondered what I would do in the event I came across someone (usually a female) who was in imminent danger. Again, like you said, that's not being a hero, but an upstanding citizen who looks out for others. But if you did "rescue" someone from a hairy situation, they may look at you as a hero, even though it's just simply looking out. I try to not to meddle in others' business, but it's something to think about if someone really does need help. I'm interested to see what others' opinions are on what the presidential candidates are.

I don't think anyone really needs to be a "hero". Just the presence of several able bodies should be enough to deter most troublemakers. That is, if the troublemaker thinks that the onlookers will act.

My guess is that all but Huckabee and probably him also, would be too full of themselves to even notice the potential problem.

Now if it was Billy boy Clinton you better believe he would have hot footed it out there and accosted her himself.

My “plan” if the guy bothered her was to tell the receptionist to call 911 and to go to the ladies aid myself. I was counting on my presence as a witness yelling dial 911 to break up the attack. I am not a wannabe hero; I just think we need to involve ourselves in the defense of our neighbors.

It then occurred to me.
What would McCain do?
What would Huckaby do?
What would Clinton do?
What would Obama do?

You did good. I woulda done the same thing.

People don't pay attention to what is around themselves, by doing that they are asking for trouble. Then they cry "why me". You did the right thing, but it would be better if people will wake up and look out for themselves. The bad guys would have less targets to go after.

Not a big fan of intervention when I don't know the whole story. Said guy could be her boyfriend or husband, and domestic squabbles are really dangerous for the people who intervene. I probably would have just watched from the window and been ready to call the cops if necessary.

As far as the politics of intervention, I don't think Republican or Democrat really enters into it, unless we're talking about invading third world countries. I know a lot of Democrats - especially Southern men - who would pound the tar out of anyone found accosting a woman.

I agree that it isnt aparty line. I look at these canidates and a couple that maycall 911and yellat the driver during an assault, Isee a couple thatwould go inside the house and call 911 and hope for the best.

What would Washington have done? What would Lincoln have done? What would Teddy Roosevelt have done?

Our leadership used to be people who were brave enough to stand up for the people around them.

He probably couldn't see far enough to observe the encounter, but if he did, he would naturally have whispered to the guy then clobbered him with a big stick. Then he would take the guy's land, bulldoze his house, and make the land into a national park where no one could carry a gun.
