Guys/Gals, I am a relative newbie to handguns. I've been around long guns for a LONG time but am just getting into pistols. I've been testing out various different brands at my range but they don't carry FN. What separates FN from say a Glock or Springfield XD? Thanks in advance.
I think the biggest thing that separates them from the guns listed is that they are available as a hammer fired pistol rather than striker fired pistol. FN also has a new striker fired (FNS) pistol.Quote:

The most impressive thing to me was the great price I got on mine, then when I got it I was truly amazed at the balance and the feel in my hand. I am sure that when I get it to the range it is going to continue to amaze me. As I said however the initial thing that drew me was the great deal. It was $419.00 with 5 mags and free two day shipping. I think if you get one you will be happy with it.
419 for a almost any gun with 5 mags is a great deal!
FN makes sweet guns in my opinion. I do not own any but have wanted one for a while. I may end up with one. It seems every time I am about ready to get one the watersoftner goes out or some such thing then I can't find one anymore. Oh well good luck with what ever you get and always be safe

It is my opinion that the FN lines of pistols are as good as or better than any other CCW handguns on the market today. I own both the FNS-40 and FNX-40 S&W semi-automatic pistols. Each is produced in the United States, is a well-made, visually attractive, and accurate and competitively priced.
The S and X models share mostly similar features although each has a few unique attributes to their type.
Both have in common:
Polymer fames, steel slides, are fully ambidextrous; have external safeties similar to the 1911, 4” barrels, and rails on the underside of the frame. Each model has a 14-round magazine capacity, the same break down mechanics, and a set of focus-riveting 3-dot sights or in some instances, luminous night sights.
They are however, fundamentally different in that the FNS is Striker Action while the FNX is Hammer Action. This I would believe to be the determining factor choosing one over the other.
There is also a difference in dimensions. The FNS model is 7.25 “long and weighs 27.4 ounces. The FNX is 7.40” long and weighs 24.4 ounces. Although not as large as a Government 1911, I consider them to be large size pistols as opposed to compact size pistols.
In the brief time I have had these pistols I have found them to be easy to carry and conceal as well as a joy to shoot. Whereas I have had pistols made by other manufacturers that would not accept certain types of rounds, both of these FN models handled the many different brands, types, and weights of ammunition that I have fed them without either suffering a mechanical failure to properly feed, fire or eject spent cartridges.
IMO, these two FN lines of pistols are an excellent alternative to the Glock and the venerable 1911 pistols. The FN’s are well-designed, sturdy, reliable, easier for me to conceal, and fit my hands better than either a similarly sized Glock or 1911.
Best of all, my accuracy with FN pistols is the equal of any handgun I have ever owned.
