Why do cops sometimes shoot unarmed citizens?

Interesting vid -- sums it up quite well.

Bottom line, guilty or innocent, justified or not, in any LEO interaction if you move slowly, listen carefully, do what you are told to do, and communicate your actions your chances of being shot are virtually nil.
Taking your grievances up with the cop under the circumstances is not an intelligent move. There are any number of good avenues of recourse available if you think you've been wronged - arguing with, or provoking to cop ain't one of them!

I don't understand why people want to stand toe to toe with an officer and threaten them? You're only going to loose anyhow, fool. Follow the officers directions and the encounter will be fine. This girl was probably guilty of so many other infractions before this entire episode anyhow, she was a complete fool trying to intimidate the officers to begin with. Unless she had a death wish and was trying to do suicide by cop, she was an idiot.

Tasers should be used 10 X more often . Language barriers , drugs that don't let you stand still as directed. Language barriers again. Utilize trained dogs much more initially. Everybody understands English when teeth are involved.

video might be good, but to long to watch.

So you are willing to bet your life on a taser (deemed effective only about 40%) of the time?? Or perhaps, ask the non-compliant perp to "ummm, just hang on a sec there while we call the k-9 in from over cross town"??

Perhaps you ought to take time to ACTUALLY watch the vid and see what it's talking about....

Entitlement mentality. The idea that a lot of people have is" I can do what ever I want and you won't stop me because I am entitled to"

Anybody from any country with a firearm in his or her hand(s), is speaking a language that does not need any kind of interpretation.

Tasers, impact batons, and canines are not response appropriate.

As a police officer, if you have a firearm in your hand, and you are not willingly to follow my directions / commands immediately and implicitly, one of us is going to be ultimately shot.

You can bet your last dollar, it won't be me if I have my way.

The young mother in the related video was behaving just about as stupidly as she possibly could.
She was demanding a confrontation, and beginning a fight, against polite policemen who were appropriately doing their job.
She was so extremely stupid that she was even involving her baby son, who was strapped into the back seat, telling him to "fight the cops if they try to take mommy." [paraphrased]

On top of that, she was in the wrong: Her license tab(s) was(were) missing, and she knew it. It(They) had been taken by some agency involved in repossessing her car, specifically so that if she were to drive it around, she'd be stopped by the cops.

And then, of course, there are her tattoos...

Tasers SOUND like a great idea, but some folks have a bad heart. I think I'd

rather risk being shot, LEOs aim generally being pissed poor as it is, than

      de-fibbed by 10K volts.

Neither a gun nor taser is always a viable solution.

      .

Every patrol cop will eventually have a dog or partner, I'd rather have the dog he runs and hears much better . As soon as anybody doesn't understand or follow directions he gets tasered.
I didn't say juice him, I mean taser him if he doesn't follow directions, can't always get a good connect with a taser. Fire arm at ready, Ar 15 primary weapon when possible.

Whats the perp shooting at in video? lol, I did watch half of it . Sorry for being so critical, my mistake.

Ok I watched the video, I hope as a police officer I'm trained well enough NOT to allow someone to reach for a gun.
If that glass represents my windshield , and I'm a police officer sitting in my car allowing somebody to reach for a gun I deserve to be shot.
Have you ever been pulled over and the police officer stays in his vehicle and yells out "GRAB YOUR LICENSE AND COME BACK AND LET ME TAKE A LOOK AT IT"

I experienced this one time. Young African American girl ( maybe 16, 17 ish) shows up in our building looking for her grandfather. Grandpa won't answer the phone so she goes to his unit door and starts knocking. Grandpa still won't answer the door. She comes downstairs and starts asking the lobby staff to go up and open his door for her. First of all, lobby staff don't have keys. The maintenance staff do.

We can't find the maintenance guy so she starts swearing and cursing and threatening to sue me and everybody else in the place if we don't get into this guys apartment. I tell her there is nothing we can do without a key, she swears all the more, continuing to threatening to sue everybody. Finally maintenance guy shows up and he goes upstairs with the young "lady" and gets the door open for her. Turns out gramps is in there but doesn't want to see her because he knows she's just showing up to borrow money from him.

It goes to the way people are raised. You saw in the video that the mother told the little boy the police "aren't there for us, so you fight them". Just saying, those type folks are taught by their parents to be that way. And, imo, they need to be shown the realities of being out of control in respect of authority.
