Couple emails Ive received from Illinois politicans about gun control

    -Richard J. Durbin-

Thank you for contacting me about gun control measures in light of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. I appreciate hearing from you.

I share with all Americans a profound sense of sorrow at the senseless act of violence committed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The nation mourns this event and many Americans wonder what can be done to prevent this type of tragedy in the future.

I am an original cosponsor of the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act, which would reinstate a ban on magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The ban on multi-round magazines expired along with the federal assault weapons ban in 2004.

The majority of Americans and the majority of thoughtful gun owners and hunters agree that there must be reasonable limits on gun ownership and weapons. We must institute common-sense limits, such as barring those with a history of mental instability, those with a history of violent crime or who are subject to restraining orders, and those whose names have been placed on a terrorist watch list from owning weapons. “Straw” purchasers and gun dealers should face firm penalties. There should be limits on how many firearms may be purchased in one month. Those who own firearms that are within the reach of children should have protective locks on their weapons.

The United States Supreme Court has raised questions about the Second Amendment and the protections and responsibilities under this Constitutional amendment. I plan to hold a Senate Judiciary Hearing in the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights Subcommittee to address this Constitutional question and how to forward on gun control.

My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families in Newtown, Connecticut, as we remember the children and teachers who lost their lives.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to keep in touch.

    Sincerely,
    Richard J. Durbin
    United States Senator

    RJD/jv

    -Sheila Simon-

Thank you for contacting my office. I appreciate your thoughts regarding the Second Amendment rights of all Illinois residents.

Hunting is an important tradition across the state and in my native Southern Illinois, and as a former prosecutor and as Lt. Governor, I am committed to protecting our constitutional rights. But we also need to consider the effects of gun violence. Our efforts should focus on protecting both our constitutional rights and our safety.

My goal is to support measures that both reduce gun violence and protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners. As firearms legislation moves through the General Assembly, I expect that there will be a robust debate on these issues. I will continue to be involved in discussions that involve the safety of our citizens.

Thank you once again for your thoughts. It is important for me to maintain an active engagement with the public on all matters that affect our state. Please contact my office again at any time.

    Sincerely,

    Sheila Simon

Same old spiel,Jeesh.A wise man once said,"those that give up liberty for safety deserve neither".Take their guns and security personel away and see what happens.I like the idea the NY police are pissed at the mag limit, what's good for one is good for all, deal with it.Hopefully our side will steadily gain acceptance and be understood, and the midterm elections spank the crap out of the Libtards.

Come to Georgia. We have very old fashioned ideas about freedom, liberty and the Constitution. We don't "suffer fools gladly" when it comes to politicians, if you know what I mean. For example, the city of Kennasaw, GA passed a law a few years ago that every homeowner had to have a gun. Crime went way down there, almost overnight.

It's interesting that neither politician attempted to show the relationship between magazine capacity limits on law abiding citizens and a reduction in the mayhem caused by violent psychopaths and sociopaths. Oh, I get it - there ISN'T any relationship between one and the other!

Plus they are the only ones to write me back makes me feel real represented. They are too busy stealing tax payers money welcoming home George Ryan and giving illegal immigrants drivers licenses.

Hey 8Eric6, got the same message from Durbin. NUTS to him. I wrote urging him to vote NO on any weapons ban, come to find out HE'S a SPONSOR of it. LOL. I'm heading out of state when I retire, where I can CCW and they still own their guns. Us downstaters would love to see Cook County/Chicago secede from the rest of the state. Illinois is the laughing stock of the whole nation except for maybe California.

In other words how to rewrite or bypass the Constitution. Is the way I read that and the other one blew you off.

I'm starting to feel the same way. Illinois is where I was born and raised and I hate to feel like I'm "forced" to move and leave this state because of the politics here.

I guess this supposed to be my response

    Dear Friend,

Illinois can once again be a magnet for jobs and opportunity – if only our policymakers put their priorities in the right place.

On Wednesday, Governor Pat Quinn will address a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly to deliver his annual “State of the State” address, laying out his agenda for the spring legislative session. We believe the Governor’s message – and the focus of our entire spring session – must center on the following three priorities:

    Grow the Economy

    Protect Hardworking Taxpayers

Safeguard Services for the Most Vulnerable

Prosperity and growth are the fruits of economic policies that focus on jobs. We must keep our eye on the ball and not allow anything to distract from the urgent need to restore Illinois’ competitiveness in the jobs market.

What we need to hear to improve Illinois is the Governor’s plan for growing our economy – so that individuals, innovators and entrepreneurs once again have the opportunity to succeed. As the old saying goes, “a rising tide lifts all boats”. More jobs and a stable economy are the foundation upon which to build a robust, opportunity-filled future for every Illinois family – and for our kids.

The Governor must also focus on how we get our own fiscal house in order by telling us how he will help pass a balanced budget and pension reform.

The time is now. The ball is in the Governor’s court. We stand ready to work with him – and to listen to you – on what must be done to meet the economic challenges that face each and every Illinois family.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Cross
    House Republican Leader
    State Representative, 97thDistrict

Newest response this from Adam Kinzinger

Thank you for taking the time to contact me to share your concerns regarding the protection of Second Amendment rights. By hearing your thoughts and concerns on the issues, I am better able to represent you in Congress.

Recently, President Obama called for new gun controls, including banning the use or possession of automatic and semi-automatic weapons, requiring universal background checks for all gun sales, and banning magazines with capacities above 10 rounds. While I recognize responsible limits on gun ownership, such as the long-standing prohibition of gun ownership by convicted felons and the mentally ill, I do not support laws that would infringe on law-abiding citizens’ constitutional right to own and possess a gun. Therefore, I do not support the President's proposals.

Whether for hunting, sport shooting, collecting, or self-defense, Americans use guns for a variety of purposes. The Second Amendment of our Constitution guarantees this right and protects against infringements on it.

In the aftermath of recent shootings, many Americans are searching for explanations and solutions to prevent future tragedies. There will be no easy answer to how we prevent future tragedies from occurring, but we must be willing to take a comprehensive look at all factors that influence violence in our society, including mental health and community awareness. One thing is certain, though: Implementing blanket gun restrictions on law-abiding citizens is not the answer.

Please be assured that as Congress moves forward with this discussion, I will continue to stand up for Second Amendment rights and will keep your views in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please do not hesitate to contact me if my office can be of assistance to you on any issue of importance.

    Sincerely,
    Adam Kinzinger
    Member of Congress

I have been getting the same from Ct. polititicians and I fail to see how laws and bans will solve any problems. I find it dissgusting that they are using this Newtown tradgety to further their anti-gun adjenda. For all the good it will do, I will remember who did what when I vote again
