    I'm really hoping to get all required signatures on this petition, even though I don't think it will do any good.

    Stop Demonizing Guns
    We are asking that President Obama, in a public fashion (preferably on national television, during prime-time), address the following issues:
    • Please, define an “assault rifle” as what it truly is: a full-auto, or select-fire rifle. An assault rifle is not simply the “ugly” or “evil” looking black weapons that they are being portrayed as. Admit that you have been using this term out of context, to refer to all rifles that look “scary”.
    • Explain that guns are inanimate objects and protected under our Second Amendment, not only for hunting.
    • Please explain, truthfully, the number of gun-related crimes that have been commit with legally owned, tax-stamped “assault rifles”, since 1937.
    • Lastly, please explain how well gun control has worked to prevent gun-related violence in cities like Chicago, Illinois and Washington, DC.

    I think the intention here is great but it will solve nothing because the recipient does not care what the citizens think. A more effective gesture would be to join and generously support the NRA in this same endeavor. I have no empirical evidence but in my judgement the NRA is one of the most effective lobbying groups in the country and they get results. I gave up sending petitions and emails to congress and the white house. Unless there is some horsepower behind them they go into the trash can quicker than you can send them. But I do applaud you for trying.

    If you add your signature to Holly's petition, you will be adding to that "horsepower" of which you wrote.
    Furthermore, I am willing to bet that Holly and almost all of the other people who post on this forum are already members of the NRA.

    It can never hurt, to let the White House know what we think and how many of us think the same way.
    We may end up being ignored, but it's worth the effort: There is always some chance of success.

    On the other hand, if you do nothing, you already know what the result will be.

    Yes, I am. And that is exactly how I feel on the issue. I see little chance of it working, but I have to try.

    For those who have been blind and saying that by signing petitions on We the People, a White House petition page, would not be heard and are a waste of time, you are and were wrong! Watch and listen to this video uploaded from the White House about an hour ago from President Obama. He IS listening and more people have signed petitions to add stronger gun control than have not. Many gun owners are sitting there not signing petitions, or acting because they feel that our freedoms cannot be infringed. Well you are wrong. He is and will get his way by listening to the majority if you do not act!
