I fired (200 rounds) my new FNP-9 for the first time today and in the first 125 rounds or so the slide stayed back after firing even though there were still cartridges in the magazine. What causes this problem to occur?

Ooops! I re-read the post and failed to make clear that the slide stayed back only two times in the first 125 rounds.

Any help would be appreciated!

Check your grip. You may have inadvertantly operated the slide stop yourself.

congrats on the new weapon!
Did you clean it before you went to the range?
was all the ammo the same type/load?

I had cleaned the gun well and used only one brand of ammo, so I think TOF may have hit the nail on the head. I got the gun out and can see how my left thumb could easily be the culprit. If that was the problem, a slight adjustment in my grip will fix it. Thanks for the replies!

I like the slide stop on most carry weapons, but because of accidental issues like you are mentioning, I have seen USPSA or IPSC guns where the owners havel disable the slide stop, so they don't inadvertantly lock it back during a match.
